Little Highlights of the Week

I started off 2021 feeling really inspired. The New Year always does it for me – I typically tend to feel really excited by what might come, what I might be able to achieve. And that positivity lasted the entire month and into February, but last week was a lot.

Nothing specific happened that triggered pandemic fatigue for me, it just casually showed up like an uninvited guest to your house when you just want some time to yourself. It’s been a real effort to stay positive and to avoid feelings of stress. I’m constantly reminding myself that we can’t control everything that goes on in our lives, but we can always control our reactions to them, so that’s what I’ve been focusing on – my reactions. I try to choose gratitude, positivity, and looking for the silver linings rather than giving into the blah. It’s a very real effort for me, working on that positivity. Last week was one of those weeks where I just didn’t sleep that well, and felt like I didn’t have enough time in the days to get through everything I’d wanted to. It was such a challenge to get through without allowing too much stress to creep in, so I thought I’d share some of the positives of last week that helped me get to Friday.

I took my first CrossFit class in over a year since herniating my T-spine. The 21 minute workout consisted of 7 power snatches, 14 wall balls, and 16 cal row. It was extremely challenging because I just haven’t been working out at that intensity, and I can’t remember the last time I did a power snatch, so it was no surprise I got a blood blister and my upper traps were on fire the next two days – but it was still really fun and so empowering that my back held up just fine!

I drove into New York for a hair appointment with Leo, who is an absolute genius. He’s so passionate about hair, and explains every step of the way. He also cut curtain bangs for me, which I’ve been wanting for ages. I love being in his chair, and felt so comfortable in the salon. It’s a small salon, only three chairs, and there is plexiglass separation between chairs, plus about 10 feet between chairs as well. Because of the pandemic, I drove in rather than taking the train – I use ParkWhiz for cheap parking (only paid $17 bucks for 4 hours! Normally the rate at that particular garage was $13 per every half hour. Yes, you read that right. Always use the ParkWhiz app!).

We got some snow. Buckles was in heaven. Just loves it when it snows, which makes my heart basically explode. I mean, look at him. Not a care in the world. Sigh.

This time is rough for so many, my friends. If you can, try to keep your eyes peeled every day for little slivers of positivity to keep your spirits up.
